Lodge's Early History SUNSET LODGE No. 5 7 AF & AM
Nowata, Oklahoma

The first Grand Lodge in Indian Territory was organized October 5, .1874 at Caddo, I, T., when, the five lodges in the area were invited to participate in holding a Grand Lodge, and three, of those lodges met to organize the Grand Lodge.  The first session of the Grand Lodge was held September 7th and 8th , 1875, and Granville McPherson was elected first Grand Master, at Caddof. I. T. In 1875 there were six lodges chartered in Indian Territory, with their area of jurisdiction being bounded on the north by Kansas, on the east by Missouri and Arkansas, on the south by Texas, and on the west by Texas and New Mexico. Sunset Lodge No. 57 was chartered under the Grand Lodge of Indian Territory on August. 11,1892.  After statehood the Grand Lodge of the State of Oklahoma, at Guthrie, gave Sunset Lodge the same number, No, 57. On May 11, 1892, dispensation was granted by the-Grand Lodge of Indian Territory, to confer the three degrees of Masonry, to:

With the three raised Master Masons, William A. Davis, Frank Lester Berrian and A. H. Gillespey, and the twelve first named above, are the fifteen charter members of Sunset Lodge No. 57.
